SSnow's 2018 Giants Mock Draft

1. Sam Darnold QB USC

There have been many rumors about the Giants potentially dealing this pick on or before draft night. However, it now appears that the team is leaning towards picking Darnold as the heir-apparent to Eli Manning. Though things could change in the coming weeks, The USC product impressed many scouts at his pro day and has now become the favorite of all the QB's in this draft. Should he be taken at No 1, the Giants could go with Wyoming QB Josh Allen whom like Darnold, has risen in the ranks among scouts and GM's

2. Sam Hubbard DE Ohio State

After trading Jason Pierre-Paul away, The Giants find themselves in need of a suitable replacement to place opposite Olivier Vernon. Hubbard will more than fill that void as he possesses the aggressiveness and speed to handle the 3-4 schemes new Defensive Coordinator James Bettcher will be implementing. 

3. Austin Corbett C/OT Nevada

Weston Richburg is gone, and the offensive line is being rebuilt. The Giants couldn't afford to spend too much money on a center in free agency after signing Nate Solder, so they will find their new center in the draft. Corbett doubled as both a center and tackle in college. His high work ethic and instincts will make him an asset as the retooling of front five continues.

3. Brandon Parker OT North Carolina A&T

Ereck Flowers has been a near bust for the Giants so one would have to believe that the team will look to hastily replace him as the revamped front begins to take shape. Parker has 4 years under his belt at tackle and is far more capable of getting the most out of his size than the previous lineman the team has employed in the past 5 years.

4. Rashaan Gaulden CB Tennessee

Despite the recent signing of veteran corner William Gay, the secondary still needs more depth. With one pick left, New York will need to address this by selecting a capable defensive back with a high upside. Gaulden was one of the lone bright spots for a less than stellar Volunteers team, making a standout the Giants should not pass up on if he's available here

5 Josh Adams RB Notre Dame

The Giants currently fins themselves in RB limbo. They've added the likes of Johnathan Stewart whom is still strong but aging, and they also have a squirrely young back in Wayne Gallman. The others however, are unproven. If the draft goes accordingly, they will have passed up on taking Saquan Barkley in the first. Adams had a great career at Notre Dame with his best season coming this past year. If he's still available here, The Giants are likely to take him.

SSnow's 7 Round Giants Mock Draft 2.0

1. Zach Cunningham LB Vanderbilt

The Giants have placed Cunningham high on their list of potential first round selections, which is a surprise given Reese’s history of shying away from this position. He is the best linebacker in the draft and would add a credible playmaker to an already stout defense. If the team does pull the trigger here, this would be a tremendous pickup.

2. Gerald Everett TE South Alabama

O.J. Howard and Njoku are still on the radar for the first round, but just in case they get away Everett should be there for the Giants in the second. He’s a more than capable fit for the offense and will have no trouble forming a rapport with Manning.

3. David Sharpe OT Florida

Left tackle is still a problem and the team must have answer for this issue within the first three rounds. Sharpe may not be the best player that will be available here, but he is a solid blocker whom has the good experience protecting the weak side.

4. Brian Hill RB Wyoming

The Giants still need a running back so expect them to take one at some point in the later round, probably sooner than later.

5. Nazair Jones DE/DT North Carolina

With Hankins now in Indianapolis, the team is going to need to add depth to the DT position. They could look for an immediate replacement in the early rounds, but the team will probably play it safe and pick one up here.

6. C.J. Beathard QB Iowa

Many still expect the Giants to draft a quarterback that will eventually take over for Eli. While the talent pool will be a bit slim late this late in the draft, the team may elect to take a QB whom they can mold for two to three years as a project before giving him the keys to the offense

7. DeAngelo Brown DT Louisville

Once again depth will be key to keeping the line strong and the Giants don’t plan on making the same mistake they made in the past, which saw their line become one of the worst in the NFL from 2013 to 2015

SSnow's 7 Round Giants Mock Draft

1. Ryan Ramcyzk OT Wisconsin

The Giants could easily go defense here, but the need for a more stable left tackle is a lot more urgent after the way this spot performed this season. Ramcyzk has the footwork and strength to hold up well against good pass rushers and is a steady blocker in the running game. The only concern here is his recovery from arthroscopic surgery on his labrum that will cause him to miss the combine. However, if he can heal quickly and impress at his pro day this pick should be a no-brainer.

2. Gerald Everett TE South Alabama

Once Larry Donnell lost his starting job, it became evident that the team would look to replace him. With wideout like abilities, Everett is just the kind of tight end the Giants offense is looking for. He’s a coverage nightmare for linebackers and smaller secondary players whom will struggle to match his physical style and breakaway speed. If he can impress in Indianapolis, the team will find it hard to pass him up.

3. DeMarcus Walker DE Florida State

The Giants must continue to add depth to the defensive line, Walker is the type of pass rusher the team has looked for in years past. He's has excellent speed off the edge and at times can physically dominate his man at the line of scrimmage. His impressive 25 sack total in two seasons should help him standout among the rest of the mid draft talents. Unless Reese feels otherwise, expect the Giants to give him a good look at the combine.

4. Dalvin Tomlinson DT Alabama

The team has a bi8g decision to make with Johnathan Hankins on the offseason. Should the let him walk in free agency, there will be a need to replace him with a stopper that can line up next to Damon Harrison. He may have trouble adjusting to a more complete role in the NFL, but the Giants have the veteran talent to help him learn and grow into a formidable middle man.

5. Ben Gedeon LB Michigan

Although so many Giants fans would like to see this position filled much earlier, one should believe that Reese will once again get cold feet and elect to make a safer LB pick. Gedeon had an impressive Senior Bowl which helped get him noticed by several teams and it would make a lot of sense for the Giants to look at him in this spot. He's an experienced signal caller that knows how to play the game of football.

6. Zach Pascal WR Old Dominion

Unless the team decides to bring back Victor Cruz or sign a replacement, a wide receiver should fall to them in the late rounds. Pascal earned second team all-conference in Old Dominion by having decent hands and good abilities in the return game. Though he probably won't knock anyones socks off in the pros, he fits the bill when it comes to NFL ready receivers.

7. Caleb Peterson G North Carolina

Big Blue must find more depth at the right guard position since it has been a bit of a revolving door for too long. Peterson is a solid blocker whom had success protecting top QB prospect Mitch Trubisky and showed some talent in the running game. He doesn't appear to be very high on many scouts draft boards, but the Giants can't afford tom pass on filing a position of need.

The New York Giants 2016 Draft Class

Now that the 2016 NFL Draft has come to a close, it's time to take a look at the newest members of Big Blue.

Eli Apple CB Ohio State  

This pick came as a bit of a shock to both analysts and fans who expected to Giants to look for a pass rusher, linebacker, or offensive lineman at number 10. However, the Titans and Bears traded ahead of the Giants and subsequently took OT Jack Conklin and LB Leonard Floyd right out from under them. With that in mind, one could understand why Reese and company settled on taking Apple here, but it may have served better to trade down.

Sterling Shepard WR Oklahoma

There is no doubt this guy is a stud. He can make great catches, run routes effectively, and make defenders miss in the open field. Having proven to be a 1st round talent, landing him in the second could be a major steal for the already omnipotent Giants offense.

Darian Thompson S Boise State

The ball hawk extraordinaire and former defensive captain is a major upgrade at the safety position, giving the revamped secondary additional depth and a potential starter. If he can hone his football abilities and clean up some of the mistakes he made in college, he could one of the few great steals of the draft.

B.J. Goodson LB Clemson

Surely many wish the Giants would have filled this position earlier, but nevertheless the trigger was pulled in round 4. Like Thompson, he was the defensive captain of a stout Clemson defense which should serve him well at the pro level. If all goes well and he finds a true fit in Spagnuolo's schemes, Goodson could be one of the hidden gem draft finds of 2016.

Paul Perkins RB UCLA

While many fans would have loved to land Ezekiel Elliott, Perkins is still a nice (though lesser) alternative. He has a skill set similar to Shane Vereen and is extremely elusive in the open field. It's likely he'll battle both Andre Williams and Orleans Darkwa for playing time, so we will have to wait to see exactly what he can contribute.

Jerell Adams TE South Carolina

The tight end position has been a revolving door for 6 years now as the Giants have yet to find a permanent starter. like others before him, Adams could slip into a prominent role if his game builds up to the level some believe he's capable of. However, as a later draft pick it will be a bit of climb for him to win over the coaching staff.

Round 1: Vernon Hargreaves III CB Florida

The additions of Olivier Vernon and Damon Harrison, along with the re-signing of Jason Pierre-Paul will most likely alter the Giants first round plans, especially if a Defensive lineman comes off the board early. Hargreaves is a great alternate choice when considering the current state of the secondary. Adding his prowess as corner to the likes of Rodgers-Cromartie and Janoris Jenkins could really shake things up and create a more than formidable pass defense.

Alternatives: Deforest Buckner DE Oregon, Joey Bosa DE Ohio State, Ezekiel Elliott RB Ohio State

Round 2: Reggie Ragland LB Alabama

Despite signing two players in the offseason, the Giants still don't have a long term answer at linebacker. Ragland has great play recognition and big hit ability; qualities you want out of a skilled middle linebacker. Considering there has been a carousel of underwhelming LB's moving through the Giants for quite some time, it would be nice to finally get a player talented enough to hold down that spot for a few years.

Alternatives: Chris Jones DE Mississippi State, Tyler Boyd WR Pittsburgh, Noah Spence DE Easter Kentucky

Round 3: Landon Turner G North Carolina

The Giants still lack depth at guard so they'll need to make certain that they take care of it. Turner has a big body that can overpower smaller lineman pretty easily. Though there is concern about his lateral movement, which could make him vulnerable to pass rushers, I see no problem with Big Blue selecting him as insurance for an often injury prone position.

Alternatives: Christian Westerman G Arizona State, Deion Jones LB LSU, Vonn Bell S Ohio State

Round 4: C.J. Prosise RB Notre Dame

Andre Williams has been underwhelming as the backup running back and the Giants will need to find someone that will provide a little more pop behind Rashad Jennings. Prosise brings a skill set that is comparable to Shane Vereen, quick direction change, downhill speed, and excellent hands. Seeing the success Vereen had the offense last season, there is no doubt Prosise could have the same impact right alongside him.

Alternatives: Kevin Seymour CB USC, Austin Johnson DT Penn State, Scooby Wright LB Arizona

Round 5: Jayron Kearse S Clemson

This one is simple, there is a glaring hole at the safety position that need to be filled ASAP so the Giants should take the best player available to them. At 6'4" Kearse is pretty tall for a safety, which works in his favor when it comes to jumping and tackling, however there is a concern that with that length comes a lack of speed and motion. Despite this, he could be very versatile if given the right direction ad motivation.

Alternatives: DeAndre Houston-Carson S William & Mary, Connor McGovern G Missouri, Keanu Neal S Florida

Round 6: Kolby Listenbee WR TCU

Adding another receiver is something that has been talked about off and on for a few months now. It is likely the team will look into this earlier in the draft, but there is no guarantee a receiver will worth taking earlier will become available. With no 7th round pick to play with the Giants will have to take a chance on a potential diamond in the rough in Listenbee, who has the big play ability that has made both Beckham and Cruz famous in New York.

Alternatives: DeAndre Washington RB Texas Tech, Luther Maddy DT Virginia Tech, T.J. Green S Clemson

Draft Night is Here - My 4 Round Predictions

                  

Tonight all 32 teams set course for 2015 and beyond as the first round of the NFL Draft has finally come. All of the speculation will become reality as the best the collegiate level has to offer take the next (and perhaps biggest) step in their football lives.

For the Giants, it will be imperative to find the player that not only fit the system, but can boost the future to great heights right away much like Odell Beckham did last season. There is a vast crop of talent that is most enticing, so deciding on whom to take will be a very difficult and pressured task. All in all the I feel the Giants will do what's best for them and seek to solidify a hopefully promising future for the organization.

With that said here are my predictions for the Giants fist 4 picks of the draft

Round 1: Brandon Scherff OT Iowa - This pick should be pretty easy. Unless something drastic happens early and a talent better than Scherff falls, this is the guy to take. He's versatile, has great run blocking ability, and will help the offensive line immediately. Considering where the Giants line has been the past 4 years, Scherff is a must have

Other considerable picks: Andrus Peat OT Stanford, Erick Flowers OT Miami

Round 2: Shaq Thompson S (Safety) Wahington - The loss of Antrelle Rolle to Chicago leaves a big hole in in the Giants secondary.  Filling it an with a sideline to sideline to sideline threat like Thompson would make a mice upgrade. He has a bug size to him which could be a detriment, but what he can do on the field makes up for it. He also can double as a linebacker making a rare two way player if they should want to go that route.

Other considerable picks: Eric Rowe S Utah, Preston Smith DE Mississippi State, Eli Harold DE Virginia

Round 3: Henry Anderson DT/DE Stanford - The Giants struggled to stop the run up the middle and really need to get more help, Anderson is just the guy. He has the ability to quickly plug gaps with his speed off the line and would provide a nice duo with John Hankins, whom played well last season.

Other considerable picks: Mario Edwards DT Florida State, Kwon Alexander LB LSU

Round 4: Durell Eskridge S Syracuse - The team lost nearly all of their safeties to free agency and adding another for depth is good idea.  At 6'3" Eskridge is very tall for this position and his length alone will cause problems for quarterbacks whom throw towards him.  It also helps that Coughlin has and affinity affinity for selecting players from Syracuse.

Other considerable picks: Josh Shaw S USC, Davis Tull DE UT-Chattanooga, Ramik Wilson LB Georgia

Best And Worst Draft Scenarios For Giants

                              


The NFL Draft is month away and talk is heating up on what scenarios each team could find themselves in come April 30.  The Giants are i position to make a game changing pick that could directly effect their future, but they will need to go about it the right way.  Here are some of my best and worst case scenarios for Big Blue come draft night.

  

Best:  Take The Best Player Available - Should a player like Amari Cooper (Alabama), Brandon Scherff (Iowa), Landon Collins (Alabama), or even Dante Fowler (Florida) become available, it would behoove the Giants to take them.  Staying the course and making a safe selection is always an option, but failing to capitalize on an opportunity like this would leave too many questions than answers.

Worst:  Overreaching - It is a problem that most teams face every once in while, taking a player they could have had at any point in the draft too soon.  Many fans were frustrated when the Giants decided to take OT Justin Pugh in the first round of the 2013 draft instead of DE Bjorn Werner or TE Tyler Eifert, feeling that the team placed priority on a second round prospect in the first (Though Pugh has proven to be pretty serviceable since then).  With much at stake, it is imperative that they avoid making such a reach this year, especially with the loads of talent that will be at their fingertips.

Best:  Mariota Drops - It's expected that Oregon QB Marcus Mariota will go second overall, but should he fall to Washington or even the NY Jets that would open the door for the Giants to get a potential steal.  A player like Vic Beasley or Kevin White could suddenly be in their range, giving them a nice upper hand even at number 9.

  

Worst:  Make An Unnecessary selection - While Mariota falling would be a good thing, taking him at their spot would be utterly ridiculous.  He along with Todd Gurley (Georgia), Melvin Gordon (Wisconsin), and Devin Smith (Ohio State) are big risks despite being first round caliber talent.  The Giants have not been known for this so hopefully it's safe to say there won't be any Al Davis decisions this year or anytime soon.
